Regina Günsberger ÉBENSPANGER
15 March 1878 — My grandmother, Regina, is born in the village of Alsóság (then Ság) in Vas County, in the Kingdom of Hungary. She is the second daughter of Ignác Günsberger and Rosália (nicknamed Száli) Krausz (or Krauss) Günsberger.
The family moved to Alsóság, probably from Szentbalázs in Zala County, Between about 1 June 1876 and 15 March 1878
17 April 1890 — Regina’s mother, Száli, dies following the birth of her daughter. Regina is only 12 years old. She probably takes over the care of her four younger siblings and the household.
8 February 1893 — Regina’s father, Ignác, marries Hermina Fischer. The bride is 25 years old.
16 February 1897 — Marriage of Regina’s older sister, Marika, to Mór Fischer. He was a handsome man who initially wanted to marry Regina. However, Hermina was adamant that the daughters marry by age, the eldest first.
8 April 1902 — Regina marries Móric Ébenspanger and moves to Varasd (now Varazdin in Croatia).
6 December 1904 — Regina and Móric have their first daughter, Margit, my mother.
22 April 1906 — Regina and Móric have their second daughter, my aunt Lily.
Between 1908 and 1912, the family moves from Varasd to Budapest.
4 September 1931 — Móric Ébenspanger dies in Budapest.
Before 1936 — Regina, Margit, Tibor, and aunt Lily move in together. Address: 17 Kossuth Lajos Street, Budapest.
14 July 1938 — Granddaughter Anna-Mária Balázs is born to Margit and Tibor.
19 March 1944 — Nazi Germany occupies Hungary.
